Voluntary Agreement Game Consoles

2009 – As part of the EU ECODESIGN regulatory process (in line with EU Directive 2009/125/EC), the European Commission launched a study on the energy efficiency potential of game consoles and launched a preparatory study (ENTR Lot 3: Sound and Imaging Equipment) to study the energy efficiency of game consoles alongside other sound and imaging devices. Sales of games and consoles rose in Europe last month due to strict restrictive measures. These consoles are getting more and more powerful and efficient, but there are simply more of them, which means they consume more power. NGOs are also upset that the March 31 deal, which will come into effect in January, does not initially cover the latest generations of consoles expected in stores later this year.
